Stop Mo films coming soon

Post by Fellus » Mon Mar 19, 2012 10:36 am

I feel almost (but jokingly) spoiled having seemingly three stop motion features coming to cinemas. XD

Anyone going to see Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists from Aardman, Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, or Laika's Paranorman?

None of the trailers excited me too much, but as they're the lovely stop motion I shall endeavour to go see them. Though, as I have probably mentioned before, it's a shame when stop mo films start looking like they could have just been done with CGI because the digital cameras make movement so smooth - especially films like Corpse Bride which wasn't very good, anyway.

The people making Paranorman did Coraline. The trailer for Paranorman kind of creeps me out. :o.O: Coraline will probably still be better though.

Indeed! I very much enjoyed Coraline. I can't see me liking Paranormal as much.

I've been looking forward to "Pirates!" for a long, long time now; I'm so glad the release date is finally almost here xD I can't wait to see it!

I haven't heard much about the other two though. I'm not really that much into stop motion, unless it's done by the Aardman people, so that would be why... xD

I saw Pirates! and I'd say it's my favourite feature film from Aardman (not too hard when I so disliked Chicken Run). It was quite different from their usual stuff and the bits of more adult humour were great touches. I wasn't too keen on what they did to Darwin and Victoria. But I think it's well worth a watch.

I didn't like Coraline when I saw it - LOVED ParaNorman! It's not the greatest film, but it was quirky, and it was very clever. Then I decided to watch Coraline again, and I sorta had a new appreciation for it. LAIKA have a good thing going on, they're making "kids films" that don't FEEL like kids films. I really appreciated that they didn't shy away from certain things just because it was going to be seen by kids (spoiler alert!)

Spoiler:

for example, having Mitch reveal himself to be gay at the end. It's hilarious, just a fly-away comment, and it really sums up the films main theme of tolerance and acceptance. Unfortunately lots of people have attacked the film for doing this, but I salute them. It's about damn time.
